The brand on the title follows the car forever and prices it accordingly:
- Salvage: insurer declared it a total loss; not registrable until rebuilt and state-inspected.
- Rebuilt: repaired and inspected; insurable and registrable, but valued well below clean-title equivalents.
- Flood: water damage disclosure; electronics risk persists for years.
- Lemon/buyback: repurchased by the manufacturer under warranty law; read the underlying defect history.
Cross-state “title washing” — re-registering to shed a brand — is why you run the VIN history on any used car regardless of what the paper in front of you says.
